10 Phrases That Will Sink Your Budget
Sticking to a budget, whatever your style, can be a challenge. It’s so easy to come up with reasons to spend spend spend! How come it’s so hard to find such motivating reasons to save?
SD Gal and I have been working with our budget for the past few months now, and we’ve gotten really good at getting around it. There are simple phrases that can doom your budget immediately if they become common in your spending vocabulary. Here are some of the ones we’ve used to punch big holes in our budget, and ways we’ve learned to fix them (unfortunately, after the fact).
1. “We can just put it on the credit card.”
2. “Yeah, I’ll just work more hours to cover it.”
3. “I really need this!”
4. “But it’s on sale!/It’s a really good deal!”
5. “I’ll just take it out of our grocery budget.”
6. “I’m pretty sure we can cover it, but I dunno…/We’ll find the money somewhere.”
7. “We deserve it.”
8. “We can just borrow a little from savings…”
9. “If we don’t get it now we never will.”
10. “It’s just a little more than what we budgeted.”
